"This weekend was a great experience for me. While LFI-1 raised my awareness level and truly impressed on me the awesome responsibility of carrying concealed, Advanced Handgun Skills raised my handgun skills by a quantum level.

Even though I've fired upwards of 10,000 rounds through my G19 and 1911 since LFI-1 in June, the expert guidance of both you and Bob showed me my deficiencies and how to correct them in just two days.

The big surprise for me came when we were shooting steel plates yesterday. When I first hit the plate in the center with a 115 FMJ, it didn't go down, but spun sideways. Without thinking or even being aware of using the sights, I sent my second to a spot near the edge of the plate and spun it off the stand. My remaining shots were handled the same way, one shot per plate.

In retrospect, I now remember watching the gun run itself. It was no longer 'in my hand', but was part of my body. As you pointed out in class, I was probably aware of the sights on a subconscious level, but it didn't register on a higher level.

As a result of LFI AHS, I have progressed to the level where I am much more confident of being able to deal with a violent confrontation (still praying that it won't ever happen) should I ever encounter one, than I was before this weekend."

Having said all that, I was astounded at what I learned in the Advanced Handgun Skills class.  When you explained the first morning what we would learn, I laughed to myself.  Many of the things you listed I didn't believe could be done with any more accuracy than luck.  Oh boy, was I ever wrong.

Within the first five minutes of stepping up to the firing line you guys unquestionably improved my accuracy by observing me and making a few simple recommendations.  Similarly, I went from about a 2 1/2 second security holster draw-to-first-shot, down to about 1 second and learned to do it in a safer manner than before.

As the two days continued not only did I learn to consistently do things I didn't think were possible but more importantly I learned physical and psychological strategies that would not only make me a better overall shooter but would significantly increase my survival potential.  One of the most important lessons I learned from you is that as a law enforcement officer we practice shooting in sterile, ideal situations but in the real world you have to be prepared to keep shooting accurately with whatever injuries you may have, under any conditions you may find yourself.
